Mr. McGarry’s Bio
My name is Chris McGarry and I am excited to be here at Mitchell Elementary this year! I have been a music education professional since 2007, with most of those years spent as a K-5 Music Educator in both Adams 12 and JeffCo Public Schools. I also enjoyed many years of teaching ukulele at Swallow Hill Music in the evenings!
I earned my Masters of Music Education with an emphasis in Kodály Methodology at Colorado State University in May of 2024. The Kodály method is a playful, experience-based approach to music education centered around singing, authentic music making and musical literacy. This method serves as the pedagogical sequence for my K-5 classroom and is aligned with JeffCo standards. I enhance this sequence through the usage of eurhythmics activities and Orff-instrumental practices.
When not at school, you can find me with my wife Laura and my nine year old daughter Eliza. You might also find me trying to squeeze in some practice time on my guitar, ukulele or roller skates.
I look forward to an enjoyable year of music making with the students at Mitchell! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have!

What will students learn in music class?
In my classroom, you will see students engaging in a variety of playful and joyful music-making, all of which is designed to meet district and state curricular standards. On any given day, students might be participating in creative movement, dance, singing, games, instruments, music literacy, music creation, music appreciation, music technology and more. Instruments you might find in my classroom would include percussion instruments, ukuleles, recorders, xylophones and more. Students will learn how to read rhythms, notes and solfège in order to prepare them for future musical opportunities.
It is my goal that students will be able to discover what they love about music making!
